Today's deal was bought at the Georgia Avenue Thrift Store , of course, for a mere $1.91. This is a very, very good album from the Nevilles. It's quite a departure from their Nawlins R&B roots largely due to Daniel Lanois ' dark, Southern Gothic production. This is the imaginary soundtrack to the Crescent City of Anne Rice and Barry Gifford aided and abetted by Brian Eno most of the songs have an ambience that, by turns, is both thought provoking and beautiful. Aaron Neville 's voice is powerful, plaintative, and at times almost ethereal. Almost all of the songs were written by the Neville Bothers but they also cover Link Wray 's " Fire and Brimstone ", the bluegrass standard " Will the Circle Be Unbroken ", Sam Cooke 's " A Change is Gonna Come ", and two Bob Dylan songs, " With God on Our Side " and " The Ballad of Hollis Brown ". The only downside to this record is the final track, " Wild Injuns ...

"Lilith" by Guy Mondo, 1996 Quite a few of my friends, family and acquaintances have made the assumption that I am a good cook based on the fact that I'm a single guy who cooks his own meals rather than buying prepared foods or take-away. Truth is I'm not that good. It's just that the few things I do cook I do well and I'm creative with ingredients because, if I'm using a recipe, it's a good bet that I don't have half of the ingredients it calls for. Plus, I can be lazy and/or impatient. I find that the friends that think I'm amazing in the kitchen are, generally, people that may be impressed by my working for Carla Hall . Because I haven't had time to update lately I thought this video would make an entertaining placeholder until I could think of something better to post. For the last two years I have been cataloging my record collection at an online site called Rate Your Music . The site's main purpose is to make a database of every piece of recorded music in the world by relying on collectors to supply all the information. It also encourages collectors to rate and review music. I think this is the best thing ever. Whenever I have some spare time, especially late at night when I can't sleep, I add entries from my collect to my page there. Since I have a scanner I also upload cover images, too. So far I have cataloged 1,261 records (on vinyl) and I haven't started listing my collection of "Various Artists" on vinyl, 7" and 12" singles, cassette tapes, Evatone Soundsheets, 8-tracks, and the who-knows-how-many CDs I own.
